Directional Drill/Equipment Operator/Locator

Summary 

This position entails working outdoors, operating on a team to install/repair buried wire/fibre optics including general duties in our Network Service Group. 

Woking daily in the Hamilton and Niagara areas.

Responsibilities

Operate directional drills JT5, JT922, Mini Excavators, Concrete Saws etc.

Conduct Pre-trip inspections and tail board talk.

Transport directional drill to work site and safely off-load following MTO Book 7

Operate drill in a safe and controlled manner.

Ensure communication with locator that ensures quality assurance while meeting task and project deadlines.

Ensure effective use of time, materials, fuel, and equipment.

Interpretation of plans, diagrams, and locates

Accurate and timely completion of work

Communicate with team members on preparation and project coordination

Report any project delays to supervisor as soon as they arise.

Daily safety inspection of all equipment and tools

Observe equipment maintenance schedule and advise supervisor when repairs required

Drive to and from residential and small business customer locations in a defined geographic area performing installation and or repair services on behalf of our client

Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner

Operate equipment and vehicle in a safe manner, ensuring adherence to IMS’ safety program 

Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner to ensure that their work orders are completed as requested

Provide a high level of customer service ensuring that any escalations or concerns are addressed professionally

Troubleshoot technical issues

Use of basic hand tools, Radio Frequency Meters, TDR’s and Multi Meters (Volt Meters)

Work on PC computer and various software applications 

Requirements

Class G provide a driver’s and CVOR abstract annually DZ/AZ Preferred.

1-5 years of directional drill operation experience.

Firm understanding of underground locates.

Experience driving and operating truck and trailer.

Physically fit and capable of lifting +70lbs.

Team Player with a strong work ethic.

Self-disciplined, motivated and organized.

Ditch Witch drill experience and asset.

Conduit/pipe laying and cable pulling is an asset.

Previous work experience in telecom installation and repair would be an asset

Ability to manage a physically demanding position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, working at heights, define colours and in confined spaces

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

A positive attitude and customer focused approach 

Self-Motivated, ability to prioritize and organize work with little direction

Successful completion of a criminal background check

Physical Demands

Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position. These include but are not limited to working outdoors and in confined spaces, movement of equipment and/or materials, frequent climbing of ladders, frequent lifting and pulling of telecommunication cable and Conduit lift in excess of 70 lbs. Stand for extended periods of time.
